Directory of Sim Stories

rippwoohoo
For your convenience, I present a master directory of my sims stories. They are also organized under tags, but that lacks the human touch of having a little blurb describing every chapter, so here you go. I will update this post as new chapters and stories appear.

Warnings: language, violence, death, drug use, and sexual situations. These warnings apply to the stories in general, but each individual update will also has its own warnings listed.

This story is my interpretation of the Maxis neighbourhood, Strangetown, and attempts to stay true to the characters as they are presented by the game, at least initially. It involves all of the characters in Strangetown in some capacity, and sometimes features appearances from characters in other Maxis neighbourhoods too.

Prologue - Meet Jayne Doe: privileged only child, successful artist, and half alien. Jayne explains her background in her own words, leaves for college, and makes a deal with Pollination Technician No. 9.

Chapter One - A look at life in the Grunt family from Ripp's point of view. Ripp is desperate to get out of Strangetown, and General Buzz presents him with the opportunity that he's been waiting for.

Chapter Two - Nervous Subject lives in a waking nightmare, but his dreams are even worse. His growing friendship with Pascal Curious angers the notorious Beakers.

Chapter Three - The members of the Curious/Smith family are an odd bunch. The whole family gets together to celebrate the impending birth of Pascal's baby.

Chapter Four - Ripp attempts to pass high school, despite the many distractions. Ophelia, Johnny and Jill are introduced in more detail. Buck gets a present, and Johnny throws a party that Tank isn't invited to.

Chapter Six - Pascal gives birth to his daughter, and Nervous Subject pays him a visit. Things heat up between Lazlo and Crystal Vu. Nervous makes a mistake, and the wrath of Circe Beaker is unleashed.

Chapter Seven - Things get really bad for Nervous Subject, and the Beakers use some horrible tactics to get information from him. Olive Specter decides that it's time to go looking for her son.

Chapter Eight - The teens arrive at college. Johnny's conversation with P.T. is revealed in more detail, Ripp rids himself of that pesky virginity, and Johnny gets a phone call from a stranger that knows his name.

Chapter Nine - Buck is adjusting to his new role in the Grunt family, and opens up to his father. General Buzz finds love for a second time. The close quarters at college cause relationships to develop, and Johnny meets the girl to whom he his potentially betrothed.

Chapter Ten - Pascal makes plans to save Nervous. Loki is up to something mysterious. Tank and Ophelia get closer, Ripp auditions for a band, and the college kids look into off-campus housing.

Chapter Eleven - Tension and jealousy is rising in the apartment of Johnny, Ripp, and Ophelia. Kristen Loste goes up against the Beakers. A Grunt family dinner ends badly.

Chapter Twelve - Johnny and Ophelia reconnect, while Ripp gets a little out of control. Pascal and Lola deal with the aftermath of their failed plan. Johnny and Ripp get drunk, sing karaoke, and Ripp opens up to Johnny.

Chapter Thirteen - A look inside the personal diary of Jill Smith.

Chapter Twenty-Eight - A cut to events that take place sometime in the not-too-distant-future. Ripp is not himself, Ophelia seems to be up the stick, and Tank is harbouring a secret that weighs on his mind. Does he learn anything from any of this, or is his life just a sick joke?

Story odds and ends

These story bits that aren't chapters, but are still plot relevant.

A Message from Johnny Smith - Johnny defends his uptight ways, and shows us just what he's up against.

Close to You - Ripp and Ophelia watch the sun set together.

The Banana Question - Sometimes a banana is more than just a banana.

Nice to Meet You - The Shifting Paradymes find a new drummer.

The Magic Show - Beau and Frances discuss the merits of magic (and belief in general).

Mirror, Mirror - Dina reflects on her life, following Mortimer's funeral.

Flower Shopping

Blind Date - Beau and Frances set Tank up on a blind date.

Conjuring the Spirit - It's Halloween and Beau and Lucy attempt to contact the spirit of his dead father.

The Life and Death of Jimmy Phoenix - How Jimmy got his name.

No good deed goes unpunished. - The how and some of the whys of the Caliente sister's involvement with Bella's abduction.

Free Will - Beau, Frances, and Tank discuss free will vs. destiny.

Breaking News - The alien controversy is all over the headlines, as is another recent scandal in high society.

Outtakes and Extras

There is no real rhyme or reason to when I post Strangetown outtakes, but I have listed them according to which chapters they refer to. As it is with many things, these were once a regular feature (it was more of a convention for sim storytellers at the time I started posting), but then became more sporatic over time.

Outtakes 01: prologue to chapter nine
Outtakes 02: chapters ten to sixteen
Outtakes 03: chapters seventeen to twenty
Outtakes 04: chapter 29

Shorter one-shot stories that relate to S,HWC, but are not to be considered part of the plot of the story.

Strangetown Christmas Special - Johnny, Ripp, and Ophelia throw a Christmas party in their apartment at LFT. This occurs in an alternate reality to the story, and thus, the events do not actually happen. Everyone is still in character, and hints of things to come are dropped liberally.

April Fish - The only proper way to celebrate April Fool's Day.

Strange Bedfellows - Johnny Smith wakes up in an unfamiliar bed. Inspired by the Kitchen and Bath Interior Design Stuff Pack.

Happy Mother's Day - Mother's Day means different things to different people.

Step into my office, baby. - Ripp Grunt seeks some much-needed therapy.

Short Stories

These short one-shot stories have nothing to do with Strangetown, Here We Come. They're different takes on the Sims universe from the one I have developed for the main story.

The Black Widow -
In another possible reality for some of my favourite Strangetown characters, Ophelia comes to a realization about her future. It's significantly darker than my usual take on things.

Bella Returns - Bella Goth returns home after her visit to a very strange town, but things are not as she expected them to be. Comedy.

All That Remains - Another dark alternate interpretation of Strangetown, based loosely on some of the character details from the PSP Sims 2 game and the idea that alien births are fatal.

Challenges

These are challenge entries for simstorytellers Many of these are relevant to Strangetown, HWC, and do not appear in an official chapter.

Challenge 001: Drabble: Welcome
Challenge 002: Drabble+: Death
Challenge 003: Drabble: Pic Prompt
Challenge 004: Drabble+: Blame
Challenge 006: Short Story
Challenge 007: Song Lyrics
Challenge 008: Day Off

Drabbles

A drabble is a piece of writing that is 100 words long. Short and bite-sized, these often find their way into longer stories.

Drabble group drabbles 01
Drabble group drabbles 02
Simstoryteller drabbles: Tenderly and Condom
Simstoryteller drabbles: Perfect and Carelessly

Unprompted drabbles: Johnny, on the balcony

Drabble request post - You can request a drabble here by posting a prompt word or idea. It can be open or specific to a character or group of characters. I've also posted links to completed drabbles in the comments, so I'm not going to list to them here too. Some drabbles have been promoted to a drabble+ or ficlet, if I was really inspired by it.

Sim Scenes Challenges

These are stories told through images only.

Sim Scenes Weekly Challenge:
Parenting - Sympathy - Grouchy

Ooo, very nice. I should save this.

I can't wait for "The grass (and skin) is always greener in... Llama Spit Cove". I still love that name!

Yeah, go ahead and bookmark or add it to your memories for easy reference, if you want. I'll keep this list up to date.

That's how I plan to format all the titles for the prosperity updates. "Blah, blah, blah... in Llama Spit Cove." It should be fun to come up with different titles. I want to start posting that soon, since I've completed the first week, but I'm getting held back by setting up the story, even though it's supposed to be a very light and loose story. I can't ever just do something casually - I have to over-think everything, especially at the beginning, but that intro post will come soon.

With a name like that, who wouldn't want to live there? It sounds charming, doesn't it?

Hello--I've been following your Strangetown saga since chapter 2, and feel it's time I was a creepy internet stranger and just added your journal, already :)

I'm loving your take on the aliens, and you've gotten me interested in the Grunts (in my Sims, Mary Sue Pleasant has ditched the cheating husband to marry the General, and both younger Grunts are crushing on their stepsisters).

Well, hello there! :) It's very nice to meet you, and thanks for delurking! I love to hear from people who are reading this. Don't be shy. *looks out at the other lurkers with a hopeful smile*

(But don't get me wrong - internet stalkers are fine too, if they are reading and enjoying the story. Any reader is great. I'm just not a huge fan of the creepy stalker types who steal my sim photos to create posts for the simsecret community, but other than that, I'm totally cool with it. *snicker* And yes, that did happen.)

Thanks. I'm happy to hear that the alien thing is interesting to you. Sometimes I wonder if it's too simplistic, but I wrote it to focus on the breeding element, which is what interests me the most (and I am doing this for fun, so I suppose that would make sense).

Yes. Another Grunt convert! My work here is done. :D I'm all about the Grunts (now there's an obvious statement). I love your idea of combining the Pleasant and Grunt families too (I guess you have a combined 'hood?). I would LOVE to see a story about that. With the aspirations as they are, it's not surprising that those step siblings would be hot for each other. When I added the Pleasant twins to Strangetown for the purposes of Ripp's dream, they both had double bolt attraction to him (and I matched their stats exactly).

Hehe...I'm an admitted lurker. I've been following your story since you posted Chapter nine. I don't think I've never really commented untill now. I think your story is amazing. I too have a soft spot for Ripp and the Grunts. I love to see people's rendition of the Grunts, Ripp espeically(sp?). Maybe someday I can work up enough inspiration to write a story of my own.

Oooh! Another lurker delurking? That's great. Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for the kind words! I'm glad to hear that you've enjoyed it so far.

You totally should work on a story of your own! You could always do a shorter one-shot story to get yourself started. Not many people do those, but it would be a great thing to see. I also love seeing other people's versions of the Maxis sims, since that's the fun of the Maxis characters - that so many people can do their own take on it all (and I'm with you on the especially Ripp part - it's not hard to tell that I have a soft spot for him).

I was watching Family Guy one day and this video kind of reminded me of your Ripp. The hair comment really did it for me!

It's towards the end of the video :)

Are you calling Ripp a douchebag? *snort* (I love calling people douchebags. It's just funny. We like to use the name Guy LeDouche for any really douchey guys.)

The hair thing for sure, and the circle of chicks listening, do give off a certain Ripp vibe. He's not quite the acoustic singer-songwriter type, but there is something there. It's funny that you thought of my Ripp while watching Family Guy. That seems really random. :P

Thanks for sharing!

Photos are gone!
The photos in your stories are gone! They exceeded bandwidth, and have been taken down! I do not know if you are still reading these, but if you are, please try to do something about this.

Re: Photos are gone!
I know. It happened to me a month ago too. I guess I'll probably have to look into upgrading my Photobucket account, since it's happening so frequently.

Thank for bringing it to my attention. I'll see if I can get it fixed soon.

Idol Worship
I have never enjoyed sim stories much before, but your story has really moved me. It has driven me to appreciate the sims' characters, the creator's thought into making them, the beauty of the game and it's possibilities, and the limitless bounds of your imagination. You should be very proud of yourself, to work out this whole story and entwine these characters so well. You've created an entertaining and mature piece, and I love reading it.

Re: Idol Worship
Wow. Thank you so much. ^_^ It means a lot to me to hear you say that it has given you an appreciation for the game and the characters in it. I do think that's one of the beautiful things about the game and these hints of a story and shells of characters: we each can take that in any direction we want, but we can all relate to the starting point.

Thank you for reading this, and for your kind words. I hope I can continue to live up to this praise.

Kudos!
I'm working my way through your chapters (I'm now on Ch 17) and I just wanted to let you know to keep it up! I'm a huuuuge fan of your stories - I love how you build up your plots, the twists and the characterization / motivations of your sims.

I've followed some sim stories that ended abruptly and all the blogger would say was that the neighborhood had 'imploded' so I'm hoping that you'll be finishing this - wherever the 'end' may be :-)

Re: Kudos!
Thanks. :) I've been following your comments, and thank you for leaving them. It's fun to follow you through the earlier chapters, because I get to relive them again through your reactions. I'm glad you've been enjoying it.

I certainly hope my game won't be imploding anytime soon, but that's a very scary reality with the Sims 2. Barring hood corruption, I hope to continue the story. If the neighbourhood does implode, I'll have to go to Plan B. I will put together something, either way. I want there to be some closure for this. The story has been going for so long now that I'd feel bad to just drop it.

I've posted a comment or two before, just wanted to officially de-lurk and say Hi!

I've been reading through SHWC for the past few months, It has inspired me to try and create my own lil' story thing =P

Would you mind if I added you to my friends list so I can keep up with it?
I always think it better to ask first ^-^

Hi! It's nice to meet you! ^_^ I do recognize your name, but it's nice to have a "formal" introduction. Thank you for reading the story. I'm very happy to hear that it inspired you to work on one of your own (that's how I got started at this too — I was inspired by the Strangetown stories of simantics). Have fun with it!

You can definitely add me to follow the story. I have a statement about that on the sidebar of my journal, but I'm sure people miss it (maybe I should add it to the userinfo page too). I don't tend to add people back, since I assume they're doing it for that reason (to follow the story), and wouldn't want me to be reading every personal post of their's. After I actually get to know someone, I usually add them back.

I love your userpic. So cute! ^_^ I love the Buck and Jill childhood friends relationship, even if they remain "just friends" (though I tend to think they're meant for each other).

Directory
I found your blog last month and I've been reading it. I was reading everything, not just the chapters, but it was taking too long. Then I got up to Chapter 21 but I got a bug where the next story entry I could see was Chapter 25. Then I found the directory and it said to long in but I don't have Livejournal so I used Blogger. Then I tried viewing Chapter 22 part 1 from the directory but it said "Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /20498.html on this server."

What do I do?

PS: I've got a lot of 'then's in this, haven't I?

Re: Directory
I'm terribly sorry about that. I received a message from photobucket, telling me my bandwidth was nearly exceeded, so rather than losing my images again for the rest of the month, I switched those posts to the private setting. I will repost them as soon as possible. I'll be working through them, one by one (from the beginning, unless you have another request).

I'm going to have to really buckle down and do that now. I'll make it a top priority.

Hello there,
I've found your story yesterday and I have to say that it's very addicting and fabulous. I've abandoned Sims 2 long time ago and I've never found Strangetown exciting; now I have a huge urge to go there and meddle with lives of those poor sims :) .
I'm usually a quiet lurker, but well, I've encountered the same error as the person above me. All the links here worked fine yesterday, but today almost every chapter gives me an error.
I think it may be LJ's fault, so I hope everything goes back to normal.
I'm looking forward to reading more, after LJ stops hating me :) .

Thank you. ^_^ I'm happy to have you as a reader, and I'm glad you've liked it so far.

The problem is actually that I'm switched the security of those posts to private, and I did that because photobucket sent me a warning about bandwidth again. Rather than lose the images for the rest of the month, I decided to shut it down and get to work on restoring them.

I promise you I will get to work on it ASAP. I need a permanent solution to the bandwidth issue.

I've been re-reading SHWC from the beginning and am stalled at Chapter 19, Part 2. I'm glad I checked here because I had no idea why I went straight from Part 1 to a drabble that mentioned stuff that happened in Chapter 20 and then straight onto Chapter 21!

No hurry - just letting you know how well this all holds up when reading it the second time! It's been fun to read it, knowing what happens to each of the characters in the future.

Yeah, sorry about that. I was making pretty good progress on reposting the images to my scrapbook, but then the bandwidth was exceeded a couple of days ago, so progress is stalled until the 4th. It was much better than losing the images way back on the 14th, which is when I got the warning. If I hadn't switched everything to private security, they would have likely exceeded bandwidth the very next day. (There were a couple of chapters that I couldn't switch, due to them being over the character limit, which is why the bandwidth was still eventually exceeded.)

I'm a little confused by your statement, though. I didn't think chapter 20 was visible either.

I do intend to get all this cleared up as soon as I can after Oct. 4, so don't worry. I'm way too sick of exceeded bandwidths now, so I'm going to settle that issue once and for all (well, really, only a permanent account would achieve that, but one can dream...).

I'm glad you think it holds up on the second reading. You'll likely pick up on some of my hints hidden in there, though I was trying to be pretty subtle about my winks and nudges in the beginning. They're still in there, but you almost need to know what you're looking for to notice them. Ripp, for one, does pretty much express his future dilemma in the very first chapter. I used the word "fascinated" there for a very specific reason, which slowly becomes clear later.

Thank you for reading (again)! ^_^ It makes me very happy to know you were interested enough to do that.

Ah, man. Firstly, I adore this story. :D
Secondly, the chapters 20-25 don't seem to work. I see above that you changed the settings to private back in September, and I'm not out to be a whining brat, I'm just letting you know in case you forgot to restore them to public. (man, I wish I could see what happened there! :D)

Yeah, I'm really sorry about that. It's the same situation as above, I'm afraid. I thought I'd get them all updated before the bandwidth was exceeded again, but I was wrong, so I switched it back to private. I do have part three of chapter 25 updated, and I'm working on part two right now (working backwards seemed more interesting for some reason).

I'm not going to have a whole lot of time to devote to updating it over the weekend, but I'll try my best.

And thank you. ^_^

Where is the one with Buck's fish tank? Sorry to be a pain.

This chapter deals directly with the fish. Is that the one you want?

missing chapter
Chapter 35 part 1 isn't up there. I know it exists because I've just read it.

Re: missing chapter
Sorry about that! I'll try to keep this list up to date for all the non-lj folks. ^_^

Just read this whole thing all the way through. It's funny and fantastical but I think it's got enough seriousness to it too. I like it.

Why thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoy the mix of genres. Sims are such comical creatures, but I just can't resist heaping on the drama, too. Luckily, the Strangetown characters provide ample opportunity for both.

Thanks for reading! ^_^

Just caught up with Strangetown, Here We Come (I started reading it a while ago, but I didn't have an LJ then). It's good, but now I wish I could find more good stories based on the game characters. xP

Thanks for reading! ^_^ If you're a fan of the premade game characters, you'll probably find plenty of things you'll like in the maxis_taste community. simstorytellers is also a good place to find sim stories. There are plenty of stories out there that feature the Maxis characters, so I'm sure you'll find them if you check around. Have fun!

Strangetown, Here We Come
I've just recently found your SHWC story and lost basically an entire weekend devouring it - it's awesome. I had started getting a little bored with my characters and stories but you've completely inspired me. The depth in each of your characters is really just amazing. I love how much thought you've put into all of it and how it all intertwines...you have such a talent for writing this.

I'm pretty sure I already know the (sad) answer to this, but will you ever finish it? And if not, can you at least tie up all the loose ends?

Re: Strangetown, Here We Come
Thank you for the kind words. :) I'm very happy to hear you enjoyed it, though I'm sorry about the lost weekend. Heheh. I've certainly been there, and it's fun to get absorbed by something like that. I'm honoured that you found my story entertaining enough for that.

It's been a long hiatus, and I know it is a long shot at this point that I'll finish it properly, but I'm not ready to answer this question with a straight up "no" yet.

Before I do walk away from it completely, I promise I will at least post my rough notes, basic outline for how it would have all played out (well, maybe, as it changed in the process of writing many times, so who knows if my plans will stick), and even the snippets I've already written. For now, I'm still waiting to see if I get a second wind. You never know.

Idea!
I'm completely sucked into Strangetown, Here We Come. I think it would be awesome to also spread the storytelling into the other neighborhoods as well!

Re: Idea!
Thank you. I'm glad you've enjoyed it. Quite a few of the other neighborhoods do get included in this in one way or another as the story goes on.

Well, it has been some time since you last posted, I see...but I'd like to thank you for bringing us this marvelous story. As an aspiring writer, I'd like to greet you for your enchanting style of writing and your perfect description of characters; I've never seen so well written characters. Please, keep on writing.
(Sorry if my english is ununderstandable, I'm not native.)

Re: Ed95
Thank you. That's kind of you to say. :) Character development is easily my favourite part of storytelling, so it makes me very happy to hear that someone enjoys them or relates to them (for better or worse).

I do plan to continue the story as time and inspiration allows. I'm working on the next chapter right now.

I have spent the past week on an archive binge of this story and every minute has been worth it! I'm sad to have come to the end so I'm tempted to go back and start again :p Also, now I'm feeling a little bit inspired to try something similar myself!

I'm glad you enjoyed it and thank you for the kind words. :) I'm working on the next chapter now, here and there, so it should eventually surface (though I've giving up on predicting exactly when).

I hope you will try your hand at sim storytelling. It's great fun and there's still a TS2 community out there interested in stories, but not so many stories for them right now. It'd be a great time to share something new, I think. :)
